The Liverpool Hope University said several Tuesdays ago that it’s now offering students the chance to earn a graduate degree in the study of The Beatles. If you enroll in “The Beatles, Popular Music and Society” you not only attend four twelve-week modules, but write a final dissertation once you’ve completed memorizing the entire history of their “songs, stardom, hometown and cultural impact.”
Obviously American universities are looking into this too.
If the future of “majors” at colleges becomes the history and societal impact of the biggest names in pop culture, then the world just might be falling into place.
I may not be able to name more than ten of The Beatles’ songs, but it doesn’t surprise me that they would be the start of an academic revolution like this.
